Day One
Thinking About My Purpose
Point to Ponder: It’s not about me.
Verse to Remember: “Everything got started in Him and finds its purpose in Him.” Colossians 1:16
Question to Consider: In spite of all the advertising around me, how can I remind myself that life is really about living for God, not myself?
Answer: All of my surroundings tell me to please myself and live for worldly pleasures. From the songs on the radio to the commercials on TV everything is centered around the consumer, me. While this couldn’t be more wrong, it’s still difficult to level my head and focus on the one that truly matters, God. In order for me to keep my focus on God there are a variety of things I need to do as part of my daily routine. First off I need to live a life of prayer and communicate with God on a regular basis. Second, I need to set aside daily time to dive into His word. I have been horrible about this lately and seem to be making up ridiculous excuses that I know aren’t true. Which brings me to my last key to reminding myself who I am living for, DON’T MAKE EXCUSES. If something is truly important I will make it a priority in my life and reminding myself of who I’m living for should be no different. As an athlete I make sacrifices to play the sport I love, I wake up early, skip events that I would love to attend and treat my body the way I should. So when it comes to living for God it should be no different. If I know I have a busy day and don’t have time to read the word then I need to wake up thirty minutes earlier in order to get my daily reading in. Little sacrifices like this are critical in living for God and not myself.
